A capital many times over
Capital of Belgium, of the Brussels Region and of the Flemish Community, seat of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. It hosts the European Commission, the Council of the EU, part of the European Parliament's work and NATO headquarters.
A green city
A large part of the region is green space, led by the Sonian Forest to the south-east. The Ixelles ponds, the Bois de la Cambre and the park of Laeken bring the countryside into the heart of the city.
The nineteen municipalities
Anderlecht, Auderghem, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Brussels City, Etterbeek, Evere, Forest, Ganshoren, Ixelles, Jette, Koekelberg, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Saint-Gilles, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Schaerbeek, Uccle, Watermael-Boitsfort, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre. Almost all of them were villages on the Ferraris map of 1777.
