André Ryckmans (1929-1960) fils du gouverneur Pierre Ryckmans est né au Congo belge. Il fit ses études de Droit à l'UCL, puis repartit au Congo. Il fut nommé à l'administration territoriale en 1954, mais s'opposa aussitôt aux méthodes traditionnelles de l'administration belge. Il entra en conflit avec l'administration belge au sujet de la gestion du Congo, mais finit par être assassiné lors des combats ayant accompagné le processus d'Indépendance.
