Ce quartier ayant été créé vers 1880, de nombreux axes font référence au cinquantenaire de la révolution de 1830. Initialement, la voirie s'appelait l'avenue de l'Indépendance. Une rue de l'Indépendance existait déjà à Molenbeek. En août 1915, l'adjectif belge est ajouté pour élimination des doublons. (remark in French, as published)
