Un hospice désignait un refuge, un endroit où l'on pouvait se reposer ou s'abriter. Il s'agissait généralement d'établissements religieux qui accueillaient des religieux du même ordre, des pèlerins, des voyageurs. Etant donné la proximité de la forêt et les noms des rues alentours (qui font référence à la chasse), il s'agissait sans doute de refuges pour les chasseurs et les voyageurs.
