En référence au bois qui se trouvait sur les terrains proches de Watermael-Boitsfort, de nombreuses appellations rappellent le bois dans cette commune. Si l'axe concerné ici portait un autre nom à ses débuts (lindestraet), la commune de Watermael-Boitsfort lui attribua le nom de Grand Forestier, finalement adopté par Auderghem. Le grand forestier était un haut fonctionnaire de l'administration des forêts. Il séjournait apparemment à Watermael-Boitsfort. (remark in French, as published)
