Le nom de la rue provient de la présence d'une ancienne auberge 'Du Marly'. Par extension, les environs prirent ce nom. C'était un lieu de promenade, où le château de Meudon était en partie installé. La cokerie du Marly s'est également installée là en 1930 jusqu'à sa fermeture en 1993. (remark in French, as published)
