Il est ici fait référence au Prince Guillaume II (1792-1849). Son père fut proclamé roi des Pays-Bas en 1815, au même moment où lui, âgé de 22 ans, prit la tête des troupes néerlandaises contre Napoléon. Il combattit aux côtés des Alliés aux Quatre-bras, puis à Waterloo où il fut blessé. C'est précisément à l'endroit où il fut blessé que les Néerlandais ont érigé la butte du Lion. Il devint roi des Pays-Bas en 1840 après son père, et est à l'origine en 1848 de l'ancêtre de la constitution actuelle des Pays-Bas, reconnue pour sa libéralité dans un contexte révolutionnaire en Europe. Il avait également tenté de devenir le premier roi des belges en 1831, sans succès. (remark in French, as published)
