Emile Verhaeren (1855-1916) est un auteur francophone français. En plus de ses nombreux poèmes, Verhaeren a également écrit de nombreux récits, critiques d'art et des pièces de théâtre. La Première Guerre mondiale est un tournant majeur pour son oeuvre ; fervant amoureux de l'Allemagne, ses écrits deviennent de véritables attaques à son encontre et leur ton est plus sombre (La Belgique Sanglante, les Ailes Rouges de la Guerre). Il décède en 1916 dans un accident de train à Rouen. (remark in French, as published)
