Le Général Emile Dossin (1854-1936) conduit trois régiments (le 5e, le 6e et le 7e de Ligne) lors de la bataille de l'Yser à Nieuwport. Le 7e régiment se battit à Saint Georges et c'est le Général qui prit l'initiative d'utiliser les inondations volontaires comme stratégie défensive contre l'ennemi. Suite à ces faits, il fut nommé Grand-officier de l'Ordre de Léopold, puis anobli Baron en 1932. C'est à ce moment-là que son nom devint Dossin de Saint-Georges. L'avenue fut créée en 1936 à l'occasion de sa mort. (remark in French, as published)
