L'avenue Jolé rend hommage à Auguste Jolé (1887-1917), Auderghemois, soldat lors de la Grande Guerre, décédé dans un hôpital au Royaume Uni, et à Fernand Jolé (1923-1943), neveu du premier, vivant à Watermael-Boitsfort, qui mourut des suites du travail forcé qu'il subit lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale à Cassel-Bettenhausen. La rue s'appelait initialement la rue Auguste Jolé, et c'est en 1956 que les autorités communales décidèrent de ne garder que le nom de famille afin de rendre hommage à Fernand Jolé par la même occasion.
