Louis De Brouckère (1870-1951) est athée et socialiste lorsqu'il fait ses études à l'ULB. Il n'obtiendra pas sa licence et se lancera donc dans la réforme de l'enseignement universitaire. Durant la Première Guerre mondiale, il jouera un rôle important dans les relations diplomatiques avec la Russie, et prendra place dans un ministère. En 1919, il est nommé professeur à l'ULB et continuera ses projets sur l'enseignement dans d'autres établissements bruxellois. (remark in French, as published)
