Le père Agnello (Charles Vanden Bosch) (1883 – 1945) se démarqua durant les combats de la Première Guerre mondiale (notamment en obtenant la rédition de son fort) et en sortit aveugle. Il bénéficie de l'aide de l'Institut Royal des Aveugles de guerre de Boitsfort et décide de tout faire pour étendre les services proposés à tous. Entre 1920 et 1939, il déploiera avec l'appui de la reine Elisabeth le soutien, les activités et les bâtiments adaptés aux personnes malvoyantes et aveugles. Il résidait à Woluwé et continua tout ce temps à y célébrer la messe. Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il fut résistant mais fut arrêté par les Allemands et déporté.
