Le boulevard des Invalides devait originellement s'intitulé Boulevard des Combattants en hommage aux combattants de la Première Guerre mondiale. Suite à la présence de plusieurs axes à Bruxelles ainsi dénommés, les autorités communales changèrent le nom en 1925 pour celui actuellement utilisé. (remark in French, as published)
