La Chaussée de Vleurgat apparut dès le XVIe siècle. Elle avait pour but de relier le quartier d'Ixelles, principalement développé autour de l'abbaye de la Cambre et des étangs d'Ixelles, au quartier de Vleurgat se trouvant à Uccle, permettant de faciliter les échanges commerciaux, y compris avec la ville de Bruxelles via la Chaussée d'Ixelles qu'elle prolongeait.
