En mémoire du Duc Jean Ier qui a fondé la vénerie de la commune en 1282. Vénerie est un terme faisant référence à une variante de la chasse, mais actuellement à Boitsfort cela désigne le centre culturel de la commune. A l'époque, cela signifiait également que les princes brabançons y avait une meute de chiens, et que les habitants de la localité étaient obligés de les nourrir afin que ceux-ci soient prêts lorsque les princes descendaient sur la localité pour y chasser.
