La place rend hommage au créateur du quartier nord-est, le baron Théophile de Jamblinnes de Meux (1820-1912). Cet ingénieur a proposé lui-même d'octroyer son nom à la place. Il est également à l'origine de la construction du barrage de la Gileppe. (remark in French, as published)
