'La place porte un nom historique, tout comme la plupart des artères du quartier, baptisées en lien avec l'histoire du jeune État belge ou celle, plus ancienne, des régions dans lesquelles il se situe. Adoptée par arrêtés du Collège de la Ville de Bruxelles des 14.04 et 15.05.1877, sa dénomination renvoie à la révolte des Nobles, également dénommés Gueux, aux Pays-Bas espagnols, qui éclata sous le règne de Philippe II, à partir de 1566.
