Georges Brugmann (1829-1900) fut banquier, investisseur et consul. Il soutint ainsi le développement d'infrastructures de communication (chemins de fer belges, tramways bruxellois), le développement industriel du Congo, la création hôpitaux (dont hôpital qui porte aujourd'hui son nom) et de plusieurs quartiers à Bruxelles.
