Emile Bissé (1811-1881) est un réfugié français qui établit dans la commune une fabrique d'huiles végétales. En 1857, il fonda le corps spécial de sapeurs-pompiers volontaires de la garde civique, dont il installa l'arsenal sur ses terrains. Il en céda le commandement, en 1878, à Ed. Herbos.
