La rue rendrait hommage à Jean-Nicolas Servandoni, dit d'Hannetaire. Il était un acteur et directeur de théâtre français du 18e siècle. Il arrive en 1745 à Bruxelles et prend la direction du théâtre de la Monnaie une fois les troupes françaises parties.
