Auparavant, il y avait dans cette rue une blanchisserie. Étant donné qu'il existait déjà une rue de la Blanchisserie à Bruxelles, on nomma cette rue la rue de la Buanderie. Ces deux termes sont en effet synonyme. Cependant, pour les habitants du quartier, la rue continua d'être appelée 'Horeblikera' pendant longtemps, soit 'la blanchisserie des putains'...
