La rue fut nommée ainsi suite à sa proximité avec le premier Tir national, place Dailly. Le Tir national est un complexe militaire servant à l'entraînement des soldats. Durant les deux Guerres mondiales, ce complexe sera utilisé par les Allemands pour les exécutions. (remark in French, as published)
