La rue aurait été nommée ainsi suite à la présence d'une vieille ferme. Une métairie est un domaine exploité par un métayer, c'est-à-dire par un 'locataire' de la terre, qui peut l'exploiter et jouir de ses fruits, sans être propriétaire de la terre et en échange d'un 'loyer'.
