Cette rue était très étroite, et reliait le quartier de Bovendael (actuel palais de justice) et la rue Haute. Au bout de la rue, un couloir voûté creusé dans une maison permettait de rejoindre la rue Haute. Cependant, à la tombée de la nuit, une porte de couleur rouge refermait le passage, empêchant l'accès à la rue haute aux prostituées qui habitaient sur la colline de Bovendael...ex. passage de la Porte-Rouge.
