Des coteaux désignent des terrains verts en pente. La rue se trouve dans la vallée du Maelbeek, et fut percée lorsque celui-ci fut transformé en égout et qu'un moulin situé là soit détruit. Les coteaux sont des terrains idéaux pour la culture de vigne, et il se pourrait que des vignobles étaient effectivement installés là. Ex. rue de la Digue du moulin. Sur Schaerbeek, le nom de la rue lui est officiellement attribué en séance du Conseil communal du 21.06.1864. (remark in French, as published)
