Des bains publics avaient été construit là en 1853 et se nommaient le lavoir, donnant ainsi leur nom à la rue. Cet établissement pouvait accueillir jusqu'à 37 hommes et 7 femmes dans des baignoires individuelles. Il fut mis hors service pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, et finalement détruit en 1945.
