Emile Claus (1849-1924) était peintre luministe. La rue fut ainsi nommée en 1924. Auparavant, elle portait le nom de rue de la Bonne Terre en référence au terrain de la famille Legrand sur lequel elle avait été percée en 1870. (remark in French, as published)
