Deux hypothèses coexistent au sujet de l'origine du nom de la rue forestière. La première hypothèse pointe la direction de la rue, orientée vers le Bois de la Cambre. La seconde lui attribue cette appellation suite à la présence du tribunal de la foresterie, tribunal en charge de la conservation du bois de Soignes et autres forets domaniales en 1400.
