Guillaume Geefs (1805-1883) fut bourgmestre de Schaerbeek entre 1852 et 1860, ainsi que conseiller provincial. Par ailleurs, ce sculpteur acquit une grande réputation. Il est à l'origine de nombreuses statues de Bruxelles, telle que la statue de la Place des Martyrs ou Léopold Ier sur la colonne du Congrès pour n'en citer que deux. (remark in French, as published)
