Georges Matheus (1916-1943) est un résistant britannique membre du réseau Luc-Marc et qui opérait des missions d'espionnage. Il fut démasqué et fusillé au Tir National. Le nom de la rue fut attribué en 1958. L'objectif était également de redonner le blason de la rue (jusqu'alors rue Zéréso) , en proie à la prostitution. (remark in French, as published)
