La rue a été nommée en référence à Georges Rency, essayiste et enseignant belge, (1875-1951. Pseudonyme d'Albert Stassart. Après une carrière dans l'enseignement, il fonda ou dirigea plusieurs périodiques aux succès variables (Stella, Le Samedi, La Vie Intellectuelle) et participera aux journaux Le Soir et L'Indépendance Belge. Parallèlement à cette activité, il fut nommé président de l'Association des écrivains belges en 1905. (remark in French, as published)
