A proximité immédiate de la rue, se trouvent les tuyaux souterrains qui fournissaient de l'eau à la partie haute de la ville. En effet, de l'eau était tirée du ruisseau 'Broebelaer' à Etterbeek et acheminée jusque là, où une pompe hydraulique (elle-même actionnée par le moulin 'Fonteyn molen' sur le Maelbeek), permettait d'envoyer l'eau dans les parties plus élevées de la ville. Cette pompe fut créée en 1600 et fonctionna jusqu'en 1854. (remark in French, as published)
