Joseph II (1741 – 1790) est le fils de Marie-Thérèse d'Autriche qui administra les territoires belges pendant 40 ans, jusqu'en 1780 où Joseph II lui succèdera entre autres à ce poste. Sur les 10 années où il fut en charge des territoires belges, Joseph II édita plus de réformes que son prédécesseur en 40 ans. Il fut connu pour être réformateur, et relativement brutal et impatient. L'anecdote raconte que sur son lit de mort, il accusa les belges de l'avoir tué suite à de nombreuses résistances à ses réformes sur nos territoires. (remark in French, as published)
