La rue rend honneur à Jean-Baptiste Masui, ingénieur et combattant lors de la Révolution né à Bruxelles à la fin du XVIIe siècle. Ingénieur à l'Administration communale de Bruxelles, il a été chargé de la supervision de l'achèvement du Canal rejoignant Bruxelles à Charleroi. Premier Directeur des chemins de fer belges, il devint en 1850 Directeur des postes. (remark in French, as published)
