Le nom de Ossegem apparaît au XIV siècle. L'origine du nom de ce lieu-dit vient de la présence d'une ferme avec un moulin à eau ayant donné naissance à un hameau. Elle se situe prés d'un autre lieu-dit «Queue de Vâche». (remark in French, as published)
