Optat Scailquin (1842-1884) était avocat, conseiller communal à Saint-Josse, parlementaire libéral et franc-maçon. Il bridait le poste de bourgmestre à Bruxelles, mais restait coincé dans la commune très rurale de Saint-Josse. Lors d'une âpre dispute au Conseil communal, il reçut un coup de canne d'un opposant catholique. Il décéda des suites des blessures occasionnées par cette canne. (remark in French, as published)
