La rue rend hommage à la famille 't kint de roodenbeeke ; une ancienne famille patricienne de Bruxelles. Emmanuel-Jospeh, philanthrope de la fin du XIX siècle, présida la société de philanthropie de Bruxelles qui finança la construction de l'hospice pour aveugles, près de la Porte de Hal.
