La rue rend hommage à Charles Thiéfry, militaire né en France à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Bien qu'ayant servi dans l'armée hollandaise, il s'engagea dans l'armée belge suite à la Révolution. Il occupa également le poste de député de 1849 à 1858, poste à partir duquel il manifesta son approbation au projet de fusionner les communes bruxelloises en une seule entité.
