Georges Petre (1874-1942) est un homme politique libéral qui fut conseiller communal de Saint-Josse-ten-Noode dès 1904, puis bourgmestre entre 1926 et 1942. Il joua un rôle important dans la Résistance face à l'occupation allemande avant d'être assassiné par des collaborateurs. Lors de ses mandats politiques, il mit en place un enseignement professionnel ainsi qu'une série de services sociaux. (remark in French, as published)
