La ville d'Aerschot est située dans le brabant flamand, entre Bruxelles et Hasselt. Elle fut, comme de nombreuses autres localités, le théâtre de massacres perpétrés par les allemands en août 1914. Ces massacres semblaient perpétrés soit par paranoïa des allemands, soit par ordre direct de terroriser la population. La rue portait initialement le nom de rue de Cologne et fut débaptisée au lendemain de la guerre. La rue du Brabant portait déjà ce nom avant la guerre et n'a donc pas de signification par rapport à la Première Guerre mondiale. Voirie à cheval sur les communes de Saint-Josse et de Schaerbeek.
