La cérémonie du Relais Sacré a été inventée en Belgique en 1928, et fut ensuite reprise par la France dès 1934. Il s'agit d'une course aux flambeaux, portés par des survivants de la Première Guerre mondiale depuis les chefs-lieux des différentes provinces jusqu'à la tombe du Soldat Inconnu au pied de la colonne du Congrès. Cette cérémonie a perdu beaucoup de son importance avec le temps, mais continue d'exister aujourd'hui, bien que les lieux de recueillement aient évolué. (remark in French, as published)
